The Capturing the Energy Development Officer presents a paper on the project at the International Council on Archives Section on Business Archives conference at the Fondazione Pirelli (Pirelli Foundation) in Milan
The conference, which took place on the 15th and 16th June, was entitled 'Creating the best business Archive' and heard papers from archivists from across the globe.
Over 140 delegates from over 21 countries, working with or in business archives, were in attendance at the Fondazione Pirelli headquarters to hear a full programme of 28 papers. Themes included: the Italian business archive scene; innovative models of management for corporate archives; business archives in the emerging markets of China, India and Saudi Arabia; problems and solutions for new archive services; internal and external advocacy; and the management of photographic and digital collections.
Capturing the Energy's Development Officer Katy Johnson delivered a joint paper with Torkel Thime of the Norwegian Oil and Gas Archives on the role advocacy has played in both organisations' efforts to preserve the archival heritage of the North Sea off shore oil and gas industry. There were also papers from the Italian oil company Eni's archivist and the archivist for Saudi Arabia's Saudiaramco.
Attendees were given a tour of the Fondazione Pirelli, established by the tyre manufacturer Pirelli in 2009 to safeguard the company's cultural and historical heritage and care for the company's historical archives, the Galleria Campari, showcasing artworks and artefacts from the drinks manufacturer's 155 year history, and the Fondazione Dalmine, maintained by the pipe manufacturer and service supplier Tenaris Dalmine.
