Capturing the Energy goes to the Scottish Oil Club

Dr Miles Oglethorpe and Jim Rae will give a presentation on the 'Capturing the Energy' initiative to the Scottish Oil Club's Discussion Dinner.

The Scottish Oil Club is a national forum for the presentation and discussion of views on the economic, industrial, technological and political aspects of petroleum and other energy resources.

Dr Oglethorpe, from the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS), will explain how the ‘Capturing the Energy’ idea evolved from a scheme to ensure the survival of records relating to the Frigg gas field, and from highly successful documentation schemes already under way in Norway. It will co-ordinate the creation of an archive of the UK offshore oil and gas industry, ensuring that important historical records are preserved for future generations.

'Capturing the Energy’ was initially jointly presented by the RCAHMS and the Business Archives Council of Scotland (BACS), but generous support from TOTAL E&P UK PLC, Scottish Enterprise Grampian, the University of Aberdeen and Oil & Gas UK have enabled the first project to get underway.

Jim Rae, a regulatory compliance, reputation and issues management consultant with 30 years' experience in the international oil and gas sector, will describe the social, economic and cultural impact of the oil and gas industry, giving an overview of the milestones and developments within the industry, and how it has influenced our lives. He will draw on his personal experiences and a career spanning the tentative beginning of the industry, to its maturity into vital international asset and major source of national revenue.
